## What AutoCaptions is

AutoCaptions is an independent browser-based auto caption and AI subtitle tool. It is built for creators, editors, podcasters, course authors and social teams who need captions finished on a video, not a raw transcript.

The workflow is: drop a video → AI transcribes the extracted audio → edit wording and timing → style the captions → export a captioned MP4 or SRT/VTT/TXT.

## Privacy and data flow

- The selected video is read in the browser to extract its audio track.
- The audio is sent to the transcription provider (Groq for standard transcription; xAI when multi-speaker diarization is enabled).
- The application does not keep the video for a caption history. The editor is in-browser.
- Custom fonts uploaded by paid users are stored in Cloudflare R2.
- Billing data (account, orders, subscription status) is stored in our Postgres database. Payment card data is handled by Paddle, not stored by us.
- AutoCaptions does not train models on your audio.
